I started out at 226lbs and now I am at 181lbs. I drink soda, and only eat once per day. I don't like protein shakes, isopure, or any other type of shake. What should I be eating and drinking at this stage after my surgery? I walk about a mile a night since it is so hot during the day. I feel like I will never get the last 66lbs off. Can anyone give some good advice?

When did you have the surgery?  I think eating only once a day might me the problem.  Your body is probably in starvation mode.  Do you drink water?  When you do eat, what do you eat?

Well here goes,

You are not eating enough.  Why are you drinking sodas?  You should be eating high protein low carb foods.  You need to eat small meals 6 times a day.  Stay away from the sodas, stay away from carbs.  Obviously you are not following your doctors orders, because he would not be telling you to eat one meal a day.  Go to your doctor and fess up to what you are doing, and have him set a plan for you if you are having this much trouble.

Good luck

Hi there. I'm 5'3" had surgery 5months ago on 3/31. Surgery weight was 234 and as of yesterday am down to 161.  I don't want to be a preacher, but why are you drinking soda?  Does the Dr. say it's ok?  It's probably the best idea #1 to forsure stop the soda, not even diet is ok.

Like the other gal said, eating once a day is not good. Your body is probably like "hang on to what we got" cause it's freaked out your not giving it fuel.  I know sometimes we think the less we eat the weight will just fall off. But after learning more and more I've learned you actually need to eat to lose.  I don't do shakes cause I hate them too. I just bite the bullet and add to the protein I eat with a 42g Protein shot a day. Alot of my friends hate the protein shot, but for me 3oz. and I get the many grams of protein, I'll do it.

R u exercising? I know you gotta change up routines throw your body off. I say increase your exercise and try to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner.  Lots of Water or SF drinks, NO SODA

I am surprised that you are drinking soda. I have to ask...why are you?

I was watching this show the other night about in the good old days....like cave man days...they went for days and even longer periods without food. Over time and the human body evolving it has never lost the mechanism in our bodies that when we starve ourselves by choice (i.e. wls) that our bodies will naturally hold on to the whatever reserves it has in order to survive.

So my point is that you have to start eating in order to lose weight.  You should be ingesting 75-100 grams of protien a day along with veggies and water.

I do not know how far you are out nor your doctors protocal, but it sounds like you were not well informed going into this surgery. I realize you are small starting out, so you will not lose the poundage as someone who weighs lets say 300 pounds.

Trust me you pouch has not failed you nor is your weight loss period over. You have to work your tool...it just does not automatically work for you. Yeah you had wls, but it is not like Alice's magic pill...you know one pill makes you bigger and the other makes you smaller...just go ask Alice!

What kind of surgery did you have? When?

When you had the surgery, no doubt your doctor or his/her staff gave you written guidelines on what to eat and what not to eat. If he/she didn't, go here to get a guideline. I am sure OH has guidelines too.

I will tell you what is NOT in the guideline...SODA! And you need to be eating more than once a day.

Protein first (over 60 grams/day), then nutrient rich vegetables and fruit and stay away from starches and other empty carbed foods.

Has anyone considered that he/she did put that he/she is 6 months postop (6m)?? Even so, I do know that my surgeon says NO soda. Protein first, then fruits/vegetables, very little if any carbs. You need to go back to your ssurgeon for his protocol. Eating once per day was fine before you had surgery, but can be VERY dangerous after surgery. You're weightloss has most likely stopped because your body feels starved and is holding on to all its reserves. Good luck.

Every surgeon pretty much has the same WLS post op rules...

1.60-80 grams protein a day
2.64+ oz water daily
3.Very little or NO carbs
4.Exercise daily

Stay away from the soda and don't just eat once a day! You will do your bosy harm by doing that!

Use your tool to your advantage...not to your disadvantage!

Lisa
